Pros: very easy to setup and use, integration with mac desktop works well
Cons: serious windows use may require ram upgrade

Reviews & Ratings for Fusion 2.0 for Mac OS X (FREE with purchase of any Apple CPU after rebates)
I'm a software engineer and recently switched all my work to Mac. There are still a few Windows-only tools I need to use so I bought VMWare Fusion. It has worked very well for me and can even handle some of the Windows games I play!

The filesystem integration works well so I can work on the same files in both Mac and Windows and everything is fine. You can even drag and drop between desktops. I can put Fusion on an external monitor and use the laptop screen for Mac and have both environments full screen. I would never have guessed it would work so well. Also, Time Machine will back up your virtual machines along with everything else.

You will probably need to upgrade your RAM to 4GB to do serious work but third party RAM is very cheap these days. To use Windows in Fusion, you'll need a license, too. I had to call in to activate my old XP license when switching but that wasn't too bad. If you have an old Windows 2000 license though, you won't have to worry about activation.

Windows license required Date: January 22, 2009

Pros: great migration tool, vmware images usable
Cons: requires a windows license

Reviews & Ratings for Fusion 2.0 for Mac OS X (FREE with purchase of any Apple CPU after rebates)
A migration tool is provided to transfer an installed PC over to Fusion. It creates an image of the Windows OS and all data. The transfer works great, but Fusion requires that a Windows OS license be entered because the OS detects that the hardware is drastically different.

If you have VMware images that you already use on Windows, these images will work with Fusion as well.

Making two computers out of one Date: January 20, 2009

Pros: simple to use, runs windows exactly as expected
Cons: unity function is a little balky sometimes

Reviews & Ratings for Fusion 2.0 for Mac OS X (FREE with purchase of any Apple CPU after rebates)
This software was a big help when I switched from a Windows laptop to a Mac. Basically, it just takes an image of your Windows machine and allows you to run it on your Mac. This has worked pretty seamlessly so far for me and it almost makes it as if I have two computers in one. It took a bit to get the setup exactly the way I wanted, but it work out well after a bit of practice. The one aspect I haven't gotten to work correctly is the "Unity" function which is meant to allow the Mac and Windows environments to run in a coordinated fashion instead of the way I use it now which is to just switch back and forth between the Mac window and the PC window (which is very quick and easy). Other than that, everything is great.

Reviews & Ratings for Fusion 2.0 for Mac OS X (FREE with purchase of any Apple CPU after rebates)
I'm a long time user and fan of VMWare Workstation under Windows and Linux so I expected a good virtual solution for the Mac and that's what I got. Using VMWare's free converter tool I was able to make an image of my company provided Windows notebook and now have it running seamlessly inside my Mac. No need for boot camp, even the iSight camera works with my corporate Office Communicator inside the XP VM.

Reviews & Ratings for Fusion 2.0 for Mac OS X (FREE with purchase of any Apple CPU after rebates)
Fusion 2.0 works great when I am at home, but I have noticed it has some intermittent performance issues when I use it in the office. I have not been able to resolve the issues at the office unfortunately, although I expect they are network related. If you check the VMWare forums, a lot of people noticed performance issues with the 2.0 release, many of whom downgraded back to Fusion 1.3 to resolve the problems.

However, when VMWare is running at top speed, it is fantastic. The integration in to the Mac OS is about as seamless as you could hope for. I highly recommend it even with the occasional performance problems.

Reviews & Ratings for Fusion 2.0 for Mac OS X (FREE with purchase of any Apple CPU after rebates)
Overall great product. Easy to install and seamless to run. No need for messy partitions, and automatically shares common folders between operating systems, so no need for duplication. The only issue that I have had is an inability to run iSight on Windows XP. Searched a number of web sources and tried a number of fixes, including downloading boot camp drivers, to no avail.

If you absolutely need to run Windows Date: December 26, 2008

Pros: windows runs great on osx
Cons: difficult to port windows from pc

Reviews & Ratings for Fusion 2.0 for Mac OS X (FREE with purchase of any Apple CPU after rebates)
As my title states, if you absolutely need to run Windows, this is a great program to have on your Mac. In my case, I work with a lot of reports in Excel and macros make my data mining so much easier. Unfortunately, Excel 08 doesn't allow me to run or create my macros in Visual Basic. Microsoft removed this feature for some reason. (security reasons?) Because of this, I had to install VMware Fusion to get WinXP so I could install Excel.

At first, I thought it was cool that I could port my entire PC laptop over, but I couldnt get it to install correctly on my Macbook. It didn't run correctly. Luckily, I had a fresh copy of WinXP laying around and did a clean OS install. It works like a charm now and noticed that Windows runs faster on my Macbook than it ever did on my PC laptop.

I'm happy that I can run Excel on my Macbook now instead of bringing along two laptops to work everyday.

Migrating your Windows PC onto Mac was easy and transferred files over perfectly. Unfortunately, Windows will detect that is being run on new hardware and require you to enter a new activation license key.

I use Windows XP very seldom, but when I do, Fusion does a great job of making it incredibly simple. The speed is good, but can't compare to Boot Camp. Every peripheral I've tried works perfectly.

This app is the best virtualization solution for Intel Macs. Not only can I run Ubuntu, Windows XP or Vista but now I can virtualize Mac OS X 10.5 Server. Currently we have two virtual servers running on one Xserve. It has saved us in hardware costs and reduces our footprint by using less energy. Vmware Fusion is the only app I recommend to my colleagues when it comes to running other OSes on Mac hardware.
