altho i was pre-warned, you should let buyers know that they will need a new "fire-wire" to transfer from their old mac.
when i got my laptop and needed this new firewire, it was very annoying that the vender and manufacturer did NOT let us know that the pins were different.

I purchase a 24" Apple. The screen is beautiful but has a flaw 2/3" down on the screen. I took it over to the Apple store in Los Gatos, CA and found out ALL the 24" screens have this flaw in the same location. Hopefully they will take care of the problem soon.

I love iMacs. They do what I need them to do while looking great doing it. The 24 inch screen is mesmerizing. I can trash my tv now.

Reviews & Ratings for iMac 24"/2.66GHz Intel Core 2 Duo/4GB RAM/640GB HD/SuperDrive/NVIDIA GeForce 9400M
Background: This is my first Apple computer that I have used extensively since about 2000 but I have kept up with changes in the Apple world since then.

I bought this machine not because of OSX but simply because it was the best fit for me needs in the All in One category.

I wanted an all in one machine with a good 24" screen that was very quiet, fairly fast and would have good resale value in 3 years. This computer has met my expectations in the first 2 categories and time will tell on the third. I was perfectly willing to trade some speed for a computer that is truly quiet. This computer has delivered in the quietness category probably because it has a laptop CPU but better ventilation then most laptops. My 5 star rating for performance is for the computer delivering in the stability and quietness factors and not because it is a great bang for the buck computer when it comes to speed. I could have gotten a significantly faster Windows machine if I was willing to sacrifice that All in One form factor but I couldn't have gotten a significantly faster Windows All in One that was faster and as quiet as the iMac.

It did choke a bit when trying to read a CDR that was about 9 years old but besides that Apple machines are worth a slight/moderate premium over Windows since the Operating System is now actually better. Vista is underrated by many but Mac OSX is moderately better.

Other then in some of the All in One category and perhaps one Macbook model, I generally favor Windows PC's over Apples simply because Apples in my opinion in the other categories are not worth the price premium.

In the 90's and up until the release of a polished/stable OSX, Windows machines -- after Windows 95-- had clearly surpassed Apple computers and their very flawed operating system at the time(nice UI back then but the Operating System itself wasn't nearly as stable as Windows) but now Apple is actually worth the premium in some cases since they have a nice user interface on top of a modified and stable Unix.

I do wish this computer came with an option to buy it with the keyboard with the number pad and not pay extra but I didn't want to pay an extra $200 for that configuration option at the Apple store since I would have had to pay tax if I bought it from the Apple Store.

Vmware fusion does run fairly fast on this machine as well and it very usable when it comes to typical Windows applications such as Microsoft Office 2007.

I actually do think Internet Explorer 8 -- not IE7 or IE6 which are both inferior -- is a better web browser then Safari, Firefox etc. but overall its not that much better for me to fire up VMware to run it. Office 2007 runs so well in VMWare Fusion that I have no desire to buy the Apple version.

Apple's iLife suite is better then most of the packages that come with the typical Windows machine but in truth that didn't factor much into my decision to buy this computer.

Reviews & Ratings for iMac 24"/2.66GHz Intel Core 2 Duo/4GB RAM/640GB HD/SuperDrive/NVIDIA GeForce 9400M
I have been using Macs for over 25 years. My last three have been from MacConnection. I love my new Mac. It does everything I want. And it does it well. Nice and snappy, quiet, and vivid colors on the display.
At work, I use a Linux workstation and a Windows PC (both less than a year old) and this Mac very noticeably outperforms both of them - in features, speed and ease of use.
I gave my old ppc iMac to my son. Using standard features of Leopard and the built-in camera, microphone and speakers, I can have a bonjour ichat window up so we can see and talk to each other while he is on his computer in the other room. I can also see his screen as a window on my screen so he can show me things and I can control his mouse and keyboard from my computer if he needs help. This would also work with others over the internet if I wanted to.
I spent a lot of time studying the graphics cards and features of all of the models trying to decide the best fit for me. ( I surf the web, program, mail, view TV (via eyeTV), view DVD's, maintain a photo library and upload videos from my miniDV camera. I do not run Windows programs or games. )
I couldn't decide, so I bought the bottom end 24" iMac, thinking if it didn't work out, I would give it to my son and get a more powerful one. Well, he is going to have to wait a long time because I love my new Mac. Like I said, It does everything I want. And it does it well.
Imacs don't have the upgrade options of a typical desktop computer, but they don't have he tangle of cables either. Other than memory or a bigger disk, I have never upgraded my computers anyway. I can double the memory on this mac and add an external disk if I need more memory or disk space. (An external disk is better anyway because you only need to turn it on when you need it.)

This computer is easy to use and has many very neat features that come on it. I also think that the internet is faster on this then it was on my other mac. Also this computer has not frozen on me once since I've had it. Also it has plenty of space on its hard drive. So if you want a bad computer then this is not for you, but if you want a great computer with a great design that seems almost flawless then this is the right computer for you.

The best computer purchase I have made. This is my first Apple computer--and I'm very happy with my purchase. It is easy to set parental controls to limit the amount of time the kids spend on the computer. It is also very easy to limit exposure to the internet.

I am very pleased with the iMac I purchased from MacConnection. It was offered at a great price, it was shipped within a few hours of placing the order, and it arrived in good condition. The iMac has performed flawlessly for the two weeks I have had it in use. It is powerful, stylish, and the Leopard OS is a pleasure to use, particularly compared to the endless annoyances of Windows Vista. Among the more controversial features, I personally like the glossy screen and the smaller keyboard.

When the new iMacs came out in March my wife and I decided it was time to buy one, since we had talked about it before. We were going to buy the discounted older iMac, but ended up going with this new one. There have been no regrets, and it is a great computer. So fun to use. My only gripe is the surprisingly small keyboard, but it has its pluses too (takes up little space).

I love this computer in every way except for two things that are pretty minor. First, there are not enough USB ports for my purposes, and they are inconvenient to get to- all on the back of the monitor. Second, there is no ability to adjust the height. It is the first thing that I find mostly objectionable. I bought a USB hub to add ports and make them more convenient to access. In every other way- resolution, speed, ease of operation, etc...- it's a great computer!

I last bought a Powerbook in 2004 with the anticipation that I can upgrade it to 2009 standards. With technology advancing and programs and peripherals being created to be compatible with today's Apple models, I researched and sought advice from other Mac users. The result was the iMac. My 24" is the best investment that I have ever made. This "all-in-one" computer is a bargain shopper's dream. I would have loved to have a Mac Pro, but this is the best alternative. It was easy to set up the moment I took it out of the box and even easier to use. Macs will always be a part of my life; as a graphic designer and as a regular user. THANKS MACCONNECTION FOR BEING MY MAC RESOURCE THE PAST 6 YEARS!

Reviews & Ratings for iMac 24"/2.66GHz Intel Core 2 Duo/4GB RAM/640GB HD/SuperDrive/NVIDIA GeForce 9400M
We love this machine! After dealing with the declining performance of our HP PC - especially after Service Pack 3 totally hosed our DVD burner and the increased security we had to add to do anything on the web, it is nice to have a system that starts quickly and can handle the many tasks and diverse interests of our family. My wife has never worked on a Mac before and she loves it - very intuitive and versatile. We wondered about the small keyboard but it turned out to be a non-issue - we actually like better than our old full sized with num pad.

We would highly recommend purchasing the iWorks suite with this system - it blows Word away. I didn't order at purchase and missed out on the rebate.

In the first few days of having this iMac I made a song with GarageBand, edited videos in iMovie, created a photo slideshow scrapbook in iPhoto and burned it all in iDVD and it looks great! All this with nothing more than watching the tutorials! This machine ROCKS!

Your family will love Photo Booth - it's a blast!
