Reviews & Ratings for 1TB Barracuda 7200.12 SATA 3Gb/s Internal Hard Drive
I recently had a Seagate Barracuda drive die: a 1TB 7200.11 SATA model. It served as a backup drive for its identical twin from the end of September, '08, to about the end of June, '09—eight months. I purchased a WD Caviar Black as a replacement, but it was DOA. So I returned to Seagate and got this 7200.12 1TB Barracuda. It has been working without incident since I installed it a couple of weeks ago. I knock wood and hope that it will continue to work. There's not much else one can do, except back up frequently. These drives have moving parts. They wear out. They die. Some don't last very long at all, some seem to keep going for years and years. Hopefully, within a couple of years, SSDs will become available with high capacities and at reasonable prices. Until then, I wait and hope. And I always back up. For reference, this Seagate Barracuda 1 TB drive is working (so far) very well in one of the bays of an Apple Power Mac G5, dual 2.7 GHz.
