This Mac Pro features the next-generation 64-bit Quad-Core Intel Xeon Nehalem processor. With four cores on one die and an integrated memory controller, the Intel Xeon Nehalem processor boosts performance nearly 2x. A completely new interior makes it even easier to add up to 8GB of memory, four PCI Express expansion cards, and up to 4TB of hard drive storage. A powerful NVIDIA graphics card provides the fastest-ever Mac graphics, while a new Mini DisplayPort gives you more display options. Add all of that with the power of Snow Leopard v10.6, and your Mac Pro is a force to be reckoned with.

Reviews & Ratings for MacPro 2.66GHz Intel Xeon Quad Core/3GB RAM/640GB HD/SuperDrive/NVIDIA GeForce GT 120 Well..I had a meltdown of my G4 Mirrored Drive Door ..the power supply failed after 5-6 years..so..time to up grade. So I did. I figured I'd go for the top..could have chosen a referb older model or something , but as Apple has no other new, upgradeable computer than the Mac Pro (good biz , I guess..) I needed this one, as I wanted to put my old drives in the new. Of course this computer will only accept SATA or something else drives..not the older ones..like I have. I had four drives in the G4 , only one will work in the Mac pro! Don't be a dummy like me ..DO YOUR HOMEWORK FIRST!! I found ALOT of my programs will not work on this new oh wow computer. AND my scanner is not supported either.. CS2?? Nope..Lightwave 8? Nope.. Several more as we go... SO...Read up and if you have a bunch of money and time...no worries!! But if you're like me and slow on the spending..well... open up the wallet as you need to let the moths out now! Other than that...Mrs Lincoln....the computer is GREAT!! I did purchase an additional 1.5 Terabyte from Connection and it just slipped in the drive bay , I formatted it, and off and running! Came with 3 GB of RAM..great for me so far, but memory is so cheap these days..upgrade is not going to be a prob. Very fast and clean as usual for Macs..I do recommend this machine for professionals..a bit overkill for the everyday user..but I like film editing (Final Cut old..nope!!) (gotta UPGRADE!!) so I want a fast machine...this is it..but I'll tell ya when the UPGRADES come in!!! Do your HOMEWORK FIRST!!!!! Go ahead..BUY IT!!! You deserve it!! You work hard!!! You'll be working forever anyway, so DO IT!!!!

Reviews & Ratings for MacPro 2.66GHz Intel Xeon Quad Core/3GB RAM/640GB HD/SuperDrive/NVIDIA GeForce GT 120 I replaced a desktop G5 with this MacPro. I probably would be happy with something less powerful and less expensive but my choices are between a Mac mini and a Desktop Pro--nothing in between that doesn't have a built-in monitor. Obviously, everything is much quicker with a new faster Mac. But what is really faster is converting video. What used to take over 4 hours to converts takes 40 minutes with this baby. The con--there are only 4 memory slots and the maximum RAM I can have is 8GBs.
GREAT!

Reviews & Ratings for MacPro 2.66GHz Intel Xeon Quad Core/3GB RAM/640GB HD/SuperDrive/NVIDIA GeForce GT 120 I have owned this computer for less than a month and it's the best yet!
Reviews & Ratings for MacPro 2.66GHz Intel Xeon Quad Core/3GB RAM/640GB HD/SuperDrive/NVIDIA GeForce GT 120 Finally upgraded from my faithful Quicksilver G4 to the new MacPro Intel Xeon Quad Core...and wow! Aside from a couple of minor "glitches" - needing to get Firewire 400 to Firewire 800 adapters - and some weirdness while transferring content (how many hours exactly does "less than a minute" mean????) things are great. And I can't believe how quiet this machine is. The new flat keyboard takes a bit of getting used to - no indents to stop your fingers from wandering and typomh...ahem, typing all kinds of nonsense. But once there, it feels great.
Magnificent Addition to the Mac Pro Line

Reviews & Ratings for MacPro 2.66GHz Intel Xeon Quad Core/3GB RAM/640GB HD/SuperDrive/NVIDIA GeForce GT 120 I have owned Macs for since the Apple II days. I have put my last machine - a G4 AGP - out to pasture as a server and it will be 10 years old in March 2010. The new Mac Pro Quad Core is faster (duh!) quieter, and cooler running. The mechanical design of the box is outstanding and makes it a breeze to upgrade with additional RAM, Hard Drives and other PCI cards, something I have already done. It continues to set the standard for ease of use and bundled software that is hard to beat. Because I do a fair amount of video editing and Photoshop work I opted for this machine over the equally impressive iMac. The only complaint I have is with the horribly noisy and cheesey super drive. Apple should be ashamed to include such a cheesey piece of c--p in an otherwise magnificent unit.

Reviews & Ratings for MacPro 2.66GHz Intel Xeon Quad Core/3GB RAM/640GB HD/SuperDrive/NVIDIA GeForce GT 120 Fine Machine would recommend it to anyone. I like the ease of getting to things on the inside. A Techs dream. Apple shoud provide firewire 400 - 800 adaptors with the machine.
Reviews & Ratings for MacPro 2.66GHz Intel Xeon Quad Core/3GB RAM/640GB HD/SuperDrive/NVIDIA GeForce GT 120 This machine is hobbled by the 8GB RAM ceiling -- and if 8GB RAM sounds like plenty to you, you're probably don't need a Mac Pro. For most general purpose computing, memory will be the reason you eventually need to upgrade beyond this machine, not CPU, disk storage, or wearing out.
I'd suggest looking for a used 2006-2008 model if you can't afford the current 8-core Nehalem machine. (I've got a 2006 quad-core, still going strong; we just need another one.)
8GB is also the RAM ceiling on the 13" Macbook Pro, for heaven's sake. It's just an embarrassing restriction on a machine that's otherwise so capable.

Reviews & Ratings for MacPro 2.66GHz Intel Xeon Quad Core/3GB RAM/640GB HD/SuperDrive/NVIDIA GeForce GT 120 I have owned most Macintosh models beginning with Mac Plus. The IIci was my all-time favorite until I purchased this Mac Pro. I particularly like the ease of adding extras i.e. HD, extra cards, DVDs etc. The speed is fantastic and I can use my favorite Dell Monitor that swivels from tabloid to portrait.
If Apple would just fix the Disk Utility Bugs all would be wonderful.
Reviews & Ratings for MacPro 2.66GHz Intel Xeon Quad Core/3GB RAM/640GB HD/SuperDrive/NVIDIA GeForce GT 120 Very nice modular design, and excellent speed performance. My only issue, is there are only 4 memory slots and each only capable of using a 2GB DIMM. 4 slots would be fine if each could handle 4 GB stick, which are available.
Reviews & Ratings for MacPro 2.66GHz Intel Xeon Quad Core/3GB RAM/640GB HD/SuperDrive/NVIDIA GeForce GT 120 I needed to replace an aging Powermac G5. This is a fast computer. I can see why you might need dual processors if you are into heavy video work but there are really only a handful of programs that take advantage of multiple processors. This computer was compromise since I have two cinema displays and I might have considered a 24" iMac. No regrets buying the single processor. It is fast and very quiet. I added a second video card and I still can't hear a thing. My Macbook fan is louder! It was up and running in 20 minutes. Just installed my second drive and I was good to go. The specs are very good for this price point and I have yet to see the need for spending more for the high end machines. There will always be a faster machine out next year so buy what you need and shop smart. One complaint....This move to the Apple Mini DisplayPort is annoying. The video cards have one AMDP and one dual link DVI port. The adapter for the AMDP to dual link DVI is $100 so I opted for a second NVIDIA card to run my second Cinema Display. This move by Apple to change the display ports reminds me of the ADC ports that shipped on early G5s. They are now long gone. Seems silly for Apple to do that but I am sure they just want to sell more monitors or adapters. Don't lament the lack of Firewire 400 ports since a $10 adapter solves that problem. It is a great machine at a reasonable price. I am very happy and PCCONNECTION service/price was excellent.

Reviews & Ratings for MacPro 2.66GHz Intel Xeon Quad Core/3GB RAM/640GB HD/SuperDrive/NVIDIA GeForce GT 120 Waited for the 2009 MacPro to come out with the Nehalem quad processor- well worth the wait. The unit is gorgeous, inside and out. I've already added two hard drives (piece of cake) and more RAM. Ordering through PCConnection I also got VMWare with the rebates. Windows XP installed this evening along with the VMWare. This is my third Mac that I've purchased through PCConnection and each time it was easy to follow the process from the order to delivery. Yeah, I'm 1 happy guy!
