The lack of keyboard backlighting on this unit is very disappointing. With Apples choice of making the keyboard black it is extremely hard to see the keys in dim light. The keyboard lighting option is not obvious in the description of the product.

The 13 inch aluminum MacBook was my first Mac after over twenty years of PC use.

Took a few weeks to learn OS X 10.5 (am still learning).

The computer is great but there is no firewire port. This means that if you have mini-DV video, you cannot capture the video onto the aluminum Mac directly. So much for the "elegance" of this MacBook.

Most people looking to buy a Mac know how great they are (and way better than PCs; I'm a little biased though), so this review is more for MacConnection. I was a bit skeptical buying from somewhere other than Apple, but I was really pleased with how easy and quick it was to get my new laptop (with free shipping to boot!). Everything was factory sealed and it came in the original, unopened box within a box within a box, so the pouring rain the day UPS dropped it off was not a concern -- thankfully! I highly recommend going through this distributor. I've yet to mail in the rebate, so hopefully that will go as well as everything else.

I am still learning all of the capabilities of my new Mac but I am loving it so far. I have been singing its praises and my girlfriend already went out and bought the Macbook and the Iphone. She's loving them too. Her new phrase is "please remove the needle" (meaning she's addicted to Mac now). We are both about to start the One to One sessions and have been to the free workshops in the retail stores. Amazing comes to mind when I compare the features of the Mac vs. the PC.

I was ambivalent about this before buying but now I'm sold. It is an excellent laptop computer.
- the screen is a bit smaller than my old 15" unit, but much brighter and extremely sharp, easy to read even for an old guy;
- the larger touch pad does help, and two-finger scrolling is absolutely spiffy and provides significant improvements in efficiency, making the touchpad comparable to or superior to a mouse;
- battery life is as advertised;
- the WiFi radio is much improved: I can now work anywhere in my home, instead of being at or below the limit in about half the rooms;
- many tasks are blazing fast, making my 1.8 GHz desktop mini look pokey by comparison.
- the unit is amazingly light compared to my old Macbook Pro.
The only significant problem I've seen is that two-finger scrolling sometimes produces muddled screen images in Safari. This is immediately repaired by using the scroll bar. The glossy screen is occasionally annoying but usually ok.

Mac Connection was such a pleasure to deal with. I had a couple of questions before I purchased and received an answer within hours. I also forgot to order one item and remembered just after placing the order. I needed it on the same order for a rebate. I emailed and explained my problem and within a very short time I had an email letting me know they had taken care of it. Sleek, compact design in all aluminum case is a sight to behold. I haven't worked with a Mac for quite some time, but I am impressed with the ease of use, speed, and style. I am disappointed that it only has 2 usb ports, but everything else seems to be excellent. The battery life is only average so far.
