Researched this on the web and picked it up a few weeks ago because of its ability to do duplex and its individual color ink cartridges.
It took a while to set up, but the instructions were good.
The duplexing thus far has been *great* and the ability to change out only the one color of ink that is low will be helpful, though I haven't yet had to replace any.
One pleasant surprise: it will open the output tray automatically if you forget to open it. This is especially entertaining if you have a curious cat.
Another pleasant surprise: I needed a PDF copy of a bill, and I was able to do that using the printer's software easily. The default settings worked well, so very little effort on my part got me exactly what I needed, quickly.
The fax problem is not something I have experienced myself, but I saw discussions in a few reviews online. If you need a multifunction printer that can fax, be sure to research this issue to see if it will make this the wrong choice for your setup.

The ink cartidges make for an easy install and replacement. The printing speed for black and white is above average for an inkjet, and the color quality on photo prints is pretty good. The digital LCD screen is an awesome addition that I think should come with every printer.
The Wireless configuration is a quick setup and is, again, a great feature to have for home and office.
The overall feel of the printer is professional and sleek. The printer door on the front even opens automatically before a print job, which in my opinion is rather neat!
It truly is an awesome purchase for the price!

I researched a ton of All-In-One printers before deciding on this Canon model. One word: AWESOME! Installation on the Mac & the PC was smooth. I tested every "section" of the All-In-One on the Mac & the PC. No problems. If you're concerned about dust getting into your printer, this is the printer! You can keep the "output" paper tray closed. When you print, the unit automatically lowers the drawer/tray for the "output" paper. If you use the buttons on the printer to operate it, the LCD display guides you through the process AND THEN... launches the Canon software automatically (on the PC and/or the Mac) without a hitch. Print quality - documents and photos - are great. When you install the ink, each cartridge has an LED to confirm that it is installed correctly. Shipping packaging is amazing. Sounds trivial, but it's all part of the job Canon has done taking care of every detail. All for under $200! It's as if the Canon guys sat down to create this printer and said, "Let's build an All-In-One printer that does everything right - does everything you would want it to do - and do it right." It even has a small footprint compared to it's peers.
ADVICE: From an experienced computer user... It's always best to connect a networked printer using a wired connection first... to set up the network/printer. Then, you can connect all of the wireless units after that. I know others may have never had any "wireless" issues, but for newbies, I have found this avoids problems.

Most are much more pricey than this, so I was a little hesitant to buy this Canon. But all my fears were for nothing! The text is great, pictures look professional quality, and setup was incredibly easy. Don't waste your time on other wireless capable printers, just get this one. Well worth the money!

It was very straightforward, the instructions were pretty clear and it all worked as documented. I decided not to attach the printer wirelessly - as it sits in the office right next to the router. But, we're happily printing wirelessly from the family room so we're very happy. I am a regular user - not a specialist that analyses every aspect so I just wanted something that prints from my living room and allows me to copy and scan. I am not too concerned about absolute speed, I just want stuff that works. For this, it is excellent. My only disappointment is noticing how small the ink tanks are getting compared to the tanks on my older S820. I will be interested to see how long they last.
