One of these is the lighted keyboard; there is light under the black keys, which helps to make them easy to see. Also, the black keys do not show soil. The screen is bright with beautiful colors, and the size of the screen is just perfect. Of course, its fast speed makes using it a pleasure, and for someone using it away from the desk, the battery life is a real plus.

For people who may still be considering whether to buy a Mac or a Windows based PC- If you want ease of use, and do not want the problems of software or hardware installations, and you want to GET THINGS DONE- then by all means, consider a Mac for your next purchase.

Though it is a G4, and I now long for the new Intel MacBook Pro, I can wait because my G4 still serves all my needs. My MBP has everything I need as a Field Engineer and I have often used it as a temporary console station when installing and setting up large servers. I like that my MBP always works. I recommend Macs to my friends for ease of use. And of course I like the design. I am a Mac fan.

This is far and away the best development machine I've ever owned. Many of the tools (Emacs, Unix shell, compilers, Ant, java, on and on) I have to spend days installing and configuring on Windows were already there. With VMWare Fusion, I can also use the remaining Windows-only tools I need.
My Macbook Pro is also much faster than my old Windows desktop (which was also more expensive including the monitor). It's almost frustrating that I didn't switch sooner. I have owned my Macbook Pro for over a year now and I've never had a driver or device problem -- my biggest frustration with Windows. Lots of important but often overlooked software is already integrated like the calendar, address book, and iSync for my phone. I spent years trying to get the right software for all that set up and working together on Windows but never succeeded (and MS Office is too expensive for personal use).

We now own three of them in our corporation, and they simply rock. I have been using a Macbook Pro for my daily work computer as an IT Network Administrator and Helpdesk Specialist for 4 years now (since the G4 12" powerbook days.) I have to say this is the cream of the crop. Each MBP that has come out has been better than the previous, but not enough improvement for me to buy each model along the way. However, when Apple released this MBP line in late Oct. 2008, I made the decision to purchase. As and IT admin, my computer has to work, always. I cannot have it fail me when I am working on our network. This computer meets that need.

I payed $3.000 for my first Power Book 170 in 1991 and then $2.500 for my G4 in 2004 and now under 1.800 for this one in 2009. it is the best performing computer I have had as well. compared with my wife's new Lenovo witch is a great computer (if you like the hassle of Microsoft products.) My mac easily outperforms it with room to spare. it is well made thoughtfully laid out with easily assessable battery and hard drive. it is fast Boots up in about 58 seconds and shuts down in 5 seconds. has great image quality good sound for a laptop and has been very pleasant to use. nothing bad to say about it yet.
My experience with Macconnection was completely Satisfactory. I found them responsive and professional even when there was a slight issue with the first computer that shipped (it had been opened previous to my receiving it) They immediately suggested I return the unit at once for exchange, the issue was handled promptly with a new computer being shipped overnight express to me so the return was no hassle at all. I unhesitatingly recommend them.

How amazing that it is not only thinner, but much more of a solid feel in its construction. Of course, there are cheaper laptops out there, and sometimes I think I'm nuts for sticking with these high-end Mac laptops. But the machines last for years without a hick-up. My last PowerBook had fallen off my desk onto solid wood floor. It took a dent in the corner, but continued working great for another 3 years. I took it to South America for a year, traveled on dusty buses with it, hooked it up to questionable electrical sources. Only last week did the hard drive go out which I'm replacing. The price to sell it used is much higher than it's PC counterparts. Point of all this is that I'm expecting the same quality with this latest pro laptop iteration from Apple. They make you fork out the dough, but the machines will last for years.
One complaint: the new highly reflective screens are not nice. My wife and I sat to watch a movie on it. On the scenes with low light, I can see her looking back at me on the screen! Too bad there is no option for the old-style screens.

This is a computer that i will keep for a long time and thinking of upgrading the hard drive once warranty ran out. I also had just upgrade the ram myself and it's noticeable faster. I will get my 500gb 7200 hdd upgrade someday....I also had minor problem with the charger which was replace by apple.

From the "Green/Minimalist" but elegant packaging, to the well-thought out & superbly engineered unit, Apple has never ceased to amaze me with their products. That is probably why I have been a devout & loyal Apple user since the Apple IIC days.
The MacBook Pro has exceeded my expectations. Now that I have had my MBP for a week, I have run it through my whole gamut of software & daily routines. I have run all software updates & installed all properly licensed software successfully. Data/file migration was a cinch.
I am particularly impressed with the "feel" of the keyboard & new trackpad. It is very solid & precise. Probably the result of the MBP's unibody construction. And I am especially enjoying the backlit keyboard. Pretty cool stuff!
Despite many less-than-positive comments about the glossy screen, I find it elegant and very usable. The screen is bright and appears to render my photo colors accurately.
All of my software including Safari run "crisply" (relative to my old PowerBook G4). I just finished working w/Photoshop Elements doing some photo touch-ups and was impressed with its speed. MS Office for Mac appears to have picked up some speed especially @ start up.
All in all, this purchase was a long time coming since I have squeezed 5 years out of my old PowerBook. I am so thrilled, I am now planning on replacing my PowerBook 12 with a MacBook 13" (my business/travel laptop).
Finally as usual, MacConnection continues to offer an excellent buying experience. Great service, timely order fulfillment, and their pricing is not too shabby either!

I wish I could lift the keyboard up like I could on my previous MacBooks (to remove all the crumbs from my snacks) but this one must be taken apart by an authorized tech to do that. My solution was to buy a silicone keyboard cover by KB Covers and that works just fine. I especially like the magnetic connector and the two firewire ports. This one will last a while.

It runs fast and it gives you the best of both worlds by being able to run it in a Windows environment. I am a gamer and can run several different PC games while directly booting into Windows. I haven't found it to work while running Fusion, but I also use VMWare Fusion to run different PC Applications.

In about 10 minutes I was up and running. It is much faster than my imac and white macbook. The only quibble I have is that it took me a little time to find the right way to finger-click on the new trackpad. Sometimes the clicks didn't work. (And yes, I did download the trackpad firmware update.) Other than that, my only surprise was how long the "standard, free" shipping took. I thought I remembered 3-5 days, but it actually took 7 business days. But that's a minor whine compared to how happy I am with the new Pro. (BTW, if you are looking to Apple's forums for reviews, take them with a grain of salt. I read about problems that I couldn't for the life of me find on my Macbook.)
