Reviews & Ratings for 500GB Rugged All-Terrain USB 2.0 External Hard Drive I've used this drive for several weeks now and it has performed flawlessly. One of the first things I did was utilize MAC's Timemachine and back everything up from my notebook. The main reason this drive was purchased was for the rugged design, the drive is as described and feels well protected and robust. On the performance end it is slower than firewire but it does not seem to be slow for a USB connection. If you can live with a USB connection alone, than this is the drive for you.

Reviews & Ratings for 500GB Rugged All-Terrain USB 2.0 External Hard Drive Best price I could find on this. Quick shipment and setup was very straight-forward. The backup software is much easier to understand than the old Retrospect. From opening the box to backing up my laptop's music library, it took around 45 minutes.

Reviews & Ratings for 500GB Rugged All-Terrain USB 2.0 External Hard Drive This drive write/read performance is so far within the expected (based on the HD specs) limits. I would take an issue with the product "Rugged" label, saving this definitions for units with a real drop protection like the accelerometer protected drives. So called "shock-resistant rubber bumper" does not, in my opinion, qualify for much of protection.
Anyway, for the sale price paid, a good purchase for me.

WAY better than a WD Passport

Reviews & Ratings for 500GB Rugged All-Terrain USB 2.0 External Hard Drive I originally liked the WD Passports because they were much smaller and a bit cheaper. But after THREE bad WD Passports I'm absolutely done with Western Digital. This Lacie Rugged has been wonderful and super reliable. And actually I bought it for $99 no tax no shipping on pcConnection so it turned out even cheaper than the $130 WD competitor! Highly recommended.
