Buffalo’s 4TB LinkStation Quad offers large, secure and remotely accessible storage for your home or SOHO network. The LinkStation Quad supports RAID0, RAID1, RAID5 and RAID1, and by default the Quad ships in RAID5, continually providing redundancy and protecting your data from potential drive failure. RAID5 also provides the best balance between security and available storage space. In addition to its RAID drive security, the LinkStation Quad has a snap-off front plate, which gives easy access to the quick-swap hard drives, which allow for a drive replacement without the need for shutting down the unit.
With the LinkStation Quad's built-in Web Access feature (optimized for iPhone), you can access your files anytime via web browser from anywherebest of all, you can also upload files while away from home. A built-in DLNA multimedia server allows you to stream multimedia content directly to any DLNA player on your network and the BitTorrent client lets you access and download multimedia files without the need of a PC running during the download. A DirectCopy function enables the Quad to automatically save multimedia files from USB attached storage devices to its internal hard drives.
The LinkStation Quad has a heavy-duty cooling system, which allows the unit to run cool and quite at the same time. The LinkStation Quad is best suited for home and SOHO users who want a reliable RAID 5 NAS, as well as the ability to stream multimedia content to their entertainment devices.

Reviews & Ratings for 4TB LinkStation Quad Network Attached Storage (Save $50 - Offer Good While Supplies Last) The 4TB Linkstation Quad is a great product. Very configurable (RAID 5, RAID 0, etc) and has the added benefit of functional USB ports which can connect to additional drives or printers remotely.
If you are a Mac user like me, I couldn't get the product to work as a TimeCapsule/TimeMachine drive despite some fixes in the forum. Apparently Apple changed some things between OS versions Buffalo needs now make updates on their end. (Yes, i worked with Buffalo tech support on this, fixes published in their forum only worked for Leopard 10.5.6 but not 10.5.8 for some reason). So that feature does not work as advertised... yet.
That said, I think any 3rd party NAS would suffer the same problem. But the system is great, fast, reliable and the tech support was quite good, even on a Sunday.

Reviews & Ratings for 4TB LinkStation Quad Network Attached Storage (Save $50 - Offer Good While Supplies Last) The Buffalo NAS drive works well and is very quiet. I like that it sleeps when your computers are off and wakes when it sees a system with the Buffalo software installed. It pings while it sleeps so net traffic doesn't automatically turn the drives on. The down side is that Time Machine doesn't work well on the drive. The NAS is formatted in XFS and TimeMachine only wants to write to Mac formatted drives. There is a kludge workaround (maybe more than 1) that people have made work. The MAC does see the drives and I have transferred > 5 gb of files to it with simple copy. The NAS is not as fast as I hoped. Wired ethernet is not slow, 802.11g with WPA2 Personal is slow for the initial backup of files but may be OK for incremental backups. I just copied stuff to the NAS with my Vista PC. I have been using a removable internal drive for PC backups and may continue to do that - very quick. I am looking mostly for file sharing between the MAC and PC with the NAS. I will explore other options for backup to the NAS with my MAC... I would like to avoid using a firewire external drive for MAC backups. Maybe Apple will fix TimeMachine... I'm disappointed with them on this issue, although I love the Unix under the hood OS. Oh, BTW I tried the included Memeo backup software on the MAC... didn't work on try #1... did not run at all - OS X 10.6.1.

Reviews & Ratings for 4TB LinkStation Quad Network Attached Storage (Save $50 - Offer Good While Supplies Last) The Buffalo NAS is a great 4TB RAID 5 NAS. PC Connection shipped it to me within one day. It arrived in perfect shape (triple boxed). The drive is much faster than the Western Digital NAS (do not get the WD - nothing but headaches). The Buffalo has a great web configuration screens. There is a switch on the back that can let it go into 'sleep' mode when no activity - make sure you are aware of which way you set this depending on your needs. The drive is very quiet. I've been using a couple of these for 3-4 months now and have had no problems with them whatsoever.

Reviews & Ratings for 4TB LinkStation Quad Network Attached Storage (Save $50 - Offer Good While Supplies Last) I've only had this for a couple of weeks. But my impression of it is very positive.
For the price and features, I'm convinced that I made the right decision.
The unit is impressive - it's heavy. They didn't skimp on materials in building it. And, it's quiet, despite the "advanced cooling" that they advertise.
I've read complaints that it is difficult to setup. That may be true for someone who has no IT experience and is looking to it as a backup for his/her 3rd grader's netbook. I personally found the menus very intuitive, and with a little reading of the manual, was able to set it up quickly and accomplish everything I wanted in a short period of time.
I haven't had it long enough to determine its reliability. My guess is that, with all the thought and planning that went into developing this unit, I most likely won't encounter problems.
I'm running it in RAID-10 - mirrored and striped. My understanding is that if a disk fails, I can replace it (NOT HOT-SWAPPABLE!!!), and it will rebuild the array. Far better than the Netgear SC101 that went belly-up at the first signs of trouble and lost all data from "mirrored" drives.
The gigabit Ethernet connection makes this a VERY viable backup solution.
At this point, I wouldn't hesitate to buy another one when I need more storage.

Reviews & Ratings for 4TB LinkStation Quad Network Attached Storage (Save $50 - Offer Good While Supplies Last) I installed this device as an alternative to tapes as the tape backups were taking 8 hours. Backup now takes less than 3 hours and can be run as a real time backup. Installation was simple and the support I received from PC Connections and the vendor was outstanding. I would recommend this and PC Connection to anyone. Great Job PC Connections for directing me to this solution, saving my customer money and time!
