Reviews & Ratings for PowerShot A1000 IS Kit - Gray ($149 - $20 Instant Rebate) The A series cameras offer the best balance of any of Canon's products. Small and light, but not so small as to be difficult to handle. Better lens than supercompact cameras, but not so large as to be bulky. Great LCD preview display, very good picture quality, and the batteries are regular AA so you can use alkaline or rechargeable. A pair of AAs will get you through hundreds of pictures, even with the flash.
Only complaint was the lack of storage; memory is so cheap these days that they really need to throw in a 4GB or larger card with the camera. But with the commodity price of flash going down all the time, maybe it's better to buy your own anyway.
Overall: excellent price/performance, good screen, good lens, good pictures, and respectable battery life. The word for this camera is "balanced". Throw in a pack of AA batteries and a 4GB memory card, and you've got a perfectly well-rounded vacation kit.
