Pros: excelent voice directions, traffic feature is the best, hands free for your cell phone, large screen, switches to "night" mode so as to not distract you, can add speed cams as caution points, small and fits in shirt pocket Cons: needs a button to instantly return to map, my wife wants her own for her car
Reviews & Ratings for Nuvi 780 NA (While Supplies Last) I purchased pone of these early December. I put it to the test on a trip from Washington DC to Boston. The menus are easy to understand. It is quick to respond. It seems to know every place I could think of to test it, even a family member who lives on a tree farm in the rural south.
On practical use, I first had the Nuvi set the route, and then I examined it. Not wanting to drive through New York City two days before Christmas, I selected a new VIA point and it routed me to that and avoided the city. You may also download routes from Mapquest to the Nuvi 780. You can download the traffic cams locations to warn you as you approach them so you don’t speed and get a ticket mailed to you.
My Nuvi 780 came with the MSN add on receiver complete with 3 months of trial service. It is GREAT; it gives you the much needed information like traffic on my route and nearby roads. It tells you how much delay time to expect on your route. It allows you to avoid those by selecting a "detour". It also has weather local weather forecasts. It also has a feature from MSN that gives the actual costs of nearby gas stations! This is a big help when driving in areas you are not familiar with.
The "points of interest" allow you to select much needed things like ATMs, Stores, Movies, and many options for food. You can type in a name of a store and it will find it. As an example I needed to by a book as a last minute gift, I typed in BOOK and it gave me the choice between Borders and several other smaller stores.
Things I would change... I would put a button on every page to return to the MAP page instead of clicking the BACK button several times.
As a bonus, it has built in Blue Tooth to make my cell phone hands free. It can play it;s instructions through the radio if you want, I prefer to listen to music and have the Nuvi 780 talk to me when needed. Its directions are VERY good, the older GOS unit I had would say take the exit in 400 feet, the Nuvi 780 will say "Take the Exit for Route 123 in 400 feet." Very clear!
