The DriveStation Combo with TurboUSB external hard drive allows you to store, back up, and easily transport various files, music, photos, videos, and other data without taking up room on your computer's hard drive. The DriveStation Combo with Turbo USB easily connects to any device with an available USB or FireWire port, including desktop PCs, Apple Macs, LinkStations, and TeraStations. Installation is easy and automatic once you are plugged into a computer with Windows 2000, XP, or Mac OS-X systems. The hard drive has a unique Fanless Heat Sink Chassis design that lets the DriveStation Combo be placed both horizontally or vertically and run cool, and quietly. The DriveStation Combo with TurboUSB also comes with Memeo AutoBackup Software, making the drive a secure, reliable, plug and play USB storage solution.

Note: Restart your computer after installing the turbo USB driver. I did not and my backup took FOREVER. After I restarted it took half the time if that!!! Works great!

I was able to use Acronis True Image to save an image of my hard drive in less than an hour from the time I unpacked the drive.

Reviews & Ratings for 500GB DriveStation Combo TurboUSB FireWire/USB External Hard Drive I have been buying this external drive whenever I need a 500 SATA internal drive. For a few dollars more, you end up with an SATA case. Why not?
This drive is easily bootable from a Mac (PPC or Intel). It's no different from any other drive—as long as you know what you are doing. (command, option, shift, delete)
There is not a single 3.5" drive that is portable (needs AC power), so lack of portability is certainly not a flaw, contrary to the other review.
This case can be easily opened up without breaking anything, so it is a major plus. Look at other brands that cannot be opened up. What happens if the firewire or USB controller is bad and the drive is actually OK. Are you going to send the drive out for 'repair' and lose everything? Of course not.

My Mac freezes all the time and at start up the world inco blinks and I have to restart after I turn off the Buf/hard drive I turned off the Buf/hard drive and I don't use it any longer.

Drive is large and so not particularly portable, a disadvantage to a laptop user like me. I have been unable to make the drive bootable with backup software that normally allows doing that, another disadvantage. Unless there is a compelling reason, look at other drives.

Great Product, would purchase again.
