After one year, they can choose to stop the service or continue using Carbonite as paying customers for $49/year.

In the past i have USb drives fail because it took a power hit or have corrupt data when it comes for recovery. So far i have not had a problem with any of the Lacie external drives i have bought. I would recommend this product for data backup.
