Pros: inexpensive, good starter lens, very good pictures Cons: no vibration reduction, limited focal length, limited in low light
Reviews & Ratings for Lens: 18-70mm f/3.5-4.5G ED-IF AF-S DX Zoom-Nikkor Lens There is a reason why alot of Nikon kits (eg. camera body and lens) includes this lens -- its inexpensive, provides a fair amount of flexibility (27-105mm effective focal length) and pretty good optical characteristics (picture quality). If you get as part of a great kit deal then use it to your hearts content. However if you have a choice and plan to invest in your camera for the long hall then don't buy this lens. Investing in the Nikon 18-200mm lens will save you having to get a longer focal length lens, give you vibration reduction and overall better performance. And if you are more hard core then the Nikon 17-55mm lens is an outstanding but pricier option.
