Having "self-standing" legs for a monopod certainly sounds good, but does it work in practice. The answer is yes and no. If you have a relatively light camera, on a level surface, and there is no wind then it'll work but I still wouldn't leave it unattended. In all other cases using it anything other than a monopod it isn't advisable. I however like to some time use the legs for a bit of extra support. This Bogen monopod w/detachable legs fits the the bill well and worth the investment.
