EOS 40D Digital SLR Camera (Body Only)

Welcome to the next generation of digital SLR photography-the Canon EOS 40D. The EOS 40D combines Canon's tremendous know-how in both the digital and photographic worlds, creating a camera that not only does everything one would expect of a traditional digital SLR, but one that incorporates staggering leaps forward in technological innovation. With new features like Canon's EOS Integrated Cleaning System, Live View Function, a more powerful DIGIC III Image Processor, plus a 10.1-megapixel CMOS sensor, a 3.0-inch LCD monitor and more, the EOS 40D elevates digital photography to new heights, enhancing the shooting experience, and delivering images one could only expect from a Canon. * 1 Megabyte (MB) = 1,000,000 bytes; 1 Gigabyte (GB) = 1,000,000,000 bytes; MP = MegaPixels ** Approximate number of JPEG (compressed file) pictures. Reviews & Ratings for EOS 40D Digital SLR Camera (Body Only)
I have used a Canon Rebel XT for about 4 years and have slowly improved my photography skills and it was time to upgrade. Looking at everything I chose the Canon 40D and I hit a HOME RUN! I am not going to get real specific except in a few areas. Anyone with any DSLR experience knows that most cameras by major manufactuers are capable of outstanding images. It is just how easy it is to coax thise images out of the camera that is important. The 40D is better built than entry-level DSLRs, has OUTSTANDING autofocus for moving subjects(sports I shot a LOT of volleyball), and the controls are easily learned. The large (3.0 inch) LCD means easier reivew of the images just taken. I use the Canon-brand battery grip and I note increased time between charges compared to my Rebel XT( both grips use two batteries). This even with the addition of LIVE VIEW on the 40D. As far as volleyball goes I noted an major increase in keeper shots using autofocus compared to using the same lens combos on my Rebel XT.

Canon, Nikon, and others area dding models all the time. The 40D is about 18 months old, meaning that it's prices are dropping as newer models come along. But in my opionion the newer models do not have compelling features to get me to spend 1200-1500 on a body when for 1000 or less I can use a body that many pros use as a second body or even a first body.

Considering what I paid for my Rebel XT about 3 years ago and what I paid for my 40D a month ago..the 40D rules.

We recently sold our XTi and bought the 40D. It's been great in many conditions, low-light, fast action, daylight, etc. The functions take a little getting used to, but once figured out navigation is second nature.
