1GB Digital Voice Recorder

With the WS-321M you can take notes as quickly as you can speak them and play them back in an instant. You can also choose from six recording qualities, ST-XQ for stereo extra high quality to LP for maximum storage capacity. With 1GB of memory, a potential 277 hours of recording can be made through the built-in stereo microphone. Thanks to the ample memory and music playback facility, you can travel light and combine business and pleasure. As with all WS series models, the WS-321M is immediately recognised as an external hard drive when connected to a PC or Mac via the integrated Hi-Speed USB connection. Meanwhile, the SRS WOW XT’ audio enhancement technology in combination with TruBass’ (deep bass maximisation) provides a richer, more powerful and brilliant audio experience.

Reviews & Ratings for 1GB Digital Voice Recorder
I almost returned this, because there's a voice recorder in my cell phone, and I already carry around enough electronics. I'm SO glad I didn't. The Olympus WS-321M works like a charm and greatly adds to my productivity.

Pros: Very light weight. Beautifully designed: put it on "hold", push a release button, and the battery compartment slides off to reveal a USB connection that works perfectly every time. (No external cord! Yeah!) Intuitive controls, very good folder system, nice big LCD display, good battery life. It's even nice-looking, which is ridiculously important to people in my profession (advertising). Offers far more flexibility and ease of use than the voice recorder in my cell phone. Easy to manage files in the recorder or on my laptop. One nice surprise: you can rename files while it's attached to your PC, and then find them more easily on the recorder. "Kickoff Meeting" is easier to recognize than "WS32901".

Sound quality is excellent: I've dictated in my car, my office, once in a noisy kitchen while preparing dinner, and on walks outdoors, and sound quality has been terrific. Ditto recording a conference speaker or a call on speakerphone.

I also bought the Olympus TP7 telephone pickup. You plug it into recorder's Mic input, put the bud in your ear, hold your cell or landline to the ear with the bud, and it records both ends of the conversation. It's a little uncomfortable on a long call, but it's a lifesaver on important conference calls.

I have one client who talks a mile a minute and who throws out lots of information on every call. Since I started recording his calls (with his permission), I haven't had to call him back once for clarification.

All in all, it's the best voice recorder I've ever owned, and I've been using them for more than 20 years.

Cons: none so far. I don't need the music option -- I have an iPod for that -- so I haven't tried that.
