1TB WD RE3 3.5" Internal SATA 3Gbps Hard Drive - 32MB Cache
The 1TB WD RE3 drive combines a 32 MB cache with SATA 3 Gb/s transfer rates for lightning-fast performance in demanding server and storage applications. WD's 4th generation RAFF technology includes sophisticated electronics to monitor the drive and correct both linear and rotational vibration simultaneously, in real time for up to a 60% performance improvement in high vibration environments over the previous generation of drives. Each drive is put through extended burn-in testing with thermal cycling to ensure reliable operation. With NoTouch ramp load technology, the recording head never touches the disk media ensuring significantly less wear to the recording head and media as well as better drive protection in transit. Intelliseek technology calculates optimum seek speeds to lower power consumption, noise, and vibration in active seek modes without degrading performance.

Reviews & Ratings for 1TB WD RE3 3.5" Internal SATA 3Gbps Hard Drive - 32MB Cache I use these drives on my ReadyNAS NV+ network storage units (2 units, each with 4 of these drives), and I've been pleased with the results so far. The performance is definitely on par with what I expect from a solution of this type; the drives have not shown any signs of reliability issues thus far. The usage pattern in this situation is a 24/7 environment, with about 1-2 cumulative hours per day of continuous NFS/CIFS operations. It will take some time to reach the operating history needed to really call these "reliable", but so far there are no problems.

I was looking for a fast, quiet, and reliable drive with an exceptional warranty. I found that and more in the WD 1T RE3 series drive. Drives has performed beautifully and I have purchased another identical drive as a RAID 5 spare (just in case on fails). PCC got me my drives quickly though the external packaging was torn open and badly damaged by the carrier (UPS). All in all a smooth and painless process.
