Not for Vista
Reviews & Ratings for Expert Mouse Optical Trackball Unique large ball 4 button trackball was brilliant on XP machines with programmable MouseWorks software. No such luck on Vista; MouseWorks not compatible and workarounds complex and unsatisfactory. "Built in" functions of Vista are rudimentary, lacking programmability or even the ability to set basic cursor functions that survive a reboot. Hopefully version 2.0 of the SlimBlade Trackball driver will allow full functionality of this replacement technology.

Pros: same timeless trackball quality, lots of configurable buttons, kensington's traditional quality Cons: scroll wheel feels cheap, no wireless model anymore, scroll wheel is a hit on traditional quality
Reviews & Ratings for Expert Mouse Optical Trackball We've used Kensington ExpertMouse trackballs for nearly 20 years. The large ball, handy button shortcuts, and longevity have all been big plusses. The trackball beats a mouse for many of us based on personal preference, and features such as occupying limited desk space compared to the room a mouse needs to operate well.
For some reason, Kensington has replaced the small but well-built scroll wheel from previous models with a scroll ring that surrounds the ball. This would actually be a nice improvement, as the larger ring could have better sensitivity than the sometimes touchy wheel, just by virtue of being larger.
But the design implementation isn't smooth - the wheel feels light and cheap, and audibly scrapes against the plastic housing as you turn it. It sort of catches and drags with stutteringly uneven friction, which you would expect from a simple plastic ring-on-plastic housing connection. Yuck.
We are using the one we ordered (to replace one that was about a decade old), and hopefully the poor ring design/construction won't put too many people off buying these, because the ExpertMouse is irreplaceable for convenience moving a cursor around on screen. But i really, really, hope that Kensington gets back on their build quality game and redesigns this wheel component to be as smooth and pleasant to use as the trackball itself. The two components just don't feel like they belong on the same device together.

Reviews & Ratings for Expert Mouse Optical Trackball Can't beat a Kensington trackball. The new wrist and hand support is great, and the scrolling around the trackball is much better than the old one.
