Pros: large set of features, has its own equation editor Cons: a bit sluggish, many features are layers away
Reviews & Ratings for Word for Mac 2008 Upgrade Word 2008 is competent, but not brilliant. Got it mainly for my wife, whose AirBook files have to be compatible with those at her Windows-centric office (she takes paperwork home). I had got it as an update to Word X, but this Intel-native version is much slower to load on a Mac Intel machine, and a tad sluggish. And it provides nothing new (meaning elegant) since Word X, except for a toolbar for Document Elements etc that takes up space and cannot be removed. Pages is a much better alternative for ease of use and intuitive menu structure, and for equation and other graphics placement. Word for Mac 2008 seems hide-bound by an attitude formed from using Window's dated programming tools, even though written in a Mac environment. It is adequate, but that is the best I can say for it. I personally will stick to Pages, exporting to .doc or .docx files when needed.
