But, do not bother to update your network to gigabit (I did!) because this product is not capable of working at gigabit speeds. Also, do not expect a performance increase switching from Raid 0 to Raid 1.
I called tech support twice. The first (unhelpful) person was surprised I expected it to work at gigabit speeds, and couldn't understand that I would expect a performance increase Raid 0->1.
The second (very helpful) Tech Support person explained that the processor was low powered (ie, slow), so the unit is not capable of communicating faster then 100Mbps, and that since it is Software RAID there is no performance increase (despite all the literature that tells you otherwise) when switching mode.
So, it's low cost slow device.

Reviews & Ratings for 1TB Linkstation Pro Duo NAS Gigabit Ethernet, (2) 500GB, RAID 0/1, Web Access I was looking for a RAID 1 configuration on my network drive and found that although available, most were unaffordable for home use - until I found the Buffalo. This Linux-based network storage system is just the thing for a novice looking to dispell the fears of data loss. Configured as a RAID 1 drive, all data is written to two drives simultaneously so that when one fails, the other keeps going. Warning messages are sent to your PC so all you have to do is replace the defective drive with another and the system heals itself. Sound like magic? Well it almost is. It does use two physical drives to obtain this kind of reliability but when your drive fails (and it WILL fail one day) you will be glad that all of your information is still safe.
Highly recommended as the best bang for the buck. I keep all of my user data on the Buffalo and then assign access permissions so that others can read and change files as desired.
You can even put this drive anywhere you want and not have it clutter up your work area. Mine is next to the cable modem and wireless router and UPS making everything easy to access and best of all off of my desk.
Give this a shot. You'll be glad you did.

To my surprise out of the box the unit is running Raid 0 and I had already moved many Gigs of info to the drive that I lost when I switched to Raid 1. Other than that lack of information in the setup directions the unit was easy to setup and easy to use. I am not using wither the print server or the web server so I can't comment on those features but I do have a USB drive attached to it and that works fine too.

We have a small business and use laptops for our pc's connected to a local network. This product allows for backups of important information from 3 laptops to a central network location. We use mirroring for added redundancy whick this product offers. This product was easy to configure and works flawlessly. It also serves as our FTP server while on the road. Very nice product.
