Reviews & Ratings for 7.1-Channel Home Theater Receiver I bought this to replace an older Kenwood receiver which was part of a home theater system. It was pretty easy to install and intuitive to use without much need for the manual. It is sort of like buying a house though...now I feel that I need to add some more things like new speakers and Blu-ray. One of the reasons that I like this particular model is that it has 4 HDMI ports...not easy to find something like this in this price range. I would buy this again even though I had to wait weeks as it was backordered.

Pros: build quality, design, sound quality, value for money Cons: remote could be easier to program
Reviews & Ratings for 7.1-Channel Home Theater Receiver Paired the STR DG820 with my Samsung LN46 550A LCD TV and some quality speakers and subwoofer this unit performs quite well. Excellent connectivity, good value. I even use the remote as a universal to operate the entire home theater in daily use. Sure I can think of a few added features I'd like it to have, but for the price point it's an excellent Hi def sound machine integrated to my hi def flat panel.

Pros: 'seems to be good" Cons: ??? don't know if i'm using it properly
Reviews & Ratings for 7.1-Channel Home Theater Receiver I can't say if this product is truly good, as it is so complicated to use, I don't know if I am using it to it's best capacity. There has to be a simpler way to use this. Niether my wife nor I are electronically 'challenged' however, nor computer illiterate, but this item remains a mystery to us in many ways.

Pros: great connectivity, easy layout for setup, auto calibrate, moderate price Cons: multiple menu's may overpower first time user
Reviews & Ratings for 7.1-Channel Home Theater Receiver The Sony 820 comes ready to rock! This receiver has excellent connectivity with a powerful delivery.
I run six different a/v inputs and run a single output to my TV. Love the simple design and connectivity layout(makes speaker install go quickly).
I love the power, 770W is more than enough for me. I dont need every option for speaker setup and room setup so the extra menu items may inhibit a first time user like myself.

Reviews & Ratings for 7.1-Channel Home Theater Receiver 1. You have to be a programmer to use this unit.
2. Once you hook up surround sound, you are unable to use your tv without turning on the receiver. It will not allow the signal to pass through.
3. HDMI inputs are a plus.

Pros: auto calibration Cons: have to read manual
Reviews & Ratings for 7.1-Channel Home Theater Receiver Great service. Equipment arrived on time and undamaged. Simple, easy set-up, but it was necessary to read the manual. The auto calibration was easy to use and very effective. It replaced a Sony home theatre receiver, as I now have a PS3, old Sony DVD, cable HD, and a HD Sony TV. I now have too many controllers.

Pros: easy to set-up and syncs with other sony equipment
Reviews & Ratings for 7.1-Channel Home Theater Receiver The reciever is everything I expected. It was easy to set up and works great. I use it with a HD Cable TV tuner, a Sony BluRay Player and a 46" Sony XBR HD TV. I hooked up Polk 5.1 speakers using a RocketFish wireless rear speaker adapter and the whole setup works great. I recommend PCConnection to anyone needing electronic stuff.

Reviews & Ratings for 7.1-Channel Home Theater Receiver Unit delivers great sound, HDMI Inputs/Output make hooking up HDMI equipment (Blu-ray, DVD, Digital cable box) a snap. Its very close to Plug and Play. I upgraded from an DG800 for the extra HDMI inputs as well as not having to use Optical cables for the sound. Blu-ray is beyond my expectations.

Pros: 4 hdmi inputs, simple automatic set-up, lots of receiver for a great price Cons: terrible remote, no svhs inputs
Reviews & Ratings for 7.1-Channel Home Theater Receiver Lots of HDMI inputs. Very easy for the layman to set up, and equally simple for the expert to customize. The remote is terrible. Overall, you get a lot of bells and whistles for a great price. Excellent value receiver.

Pros: great theater sound processing, simple to operate, good value Cons: hdmi and analog systems are separate, speaker connections are hard to use with wire
Reviews & Ratings for 7.1-Channel Home Theater Receiver I like the ease of use that this receiver has. I was looking for something that largely 'does the right thing', and this is it. Sadly, the HDMI and Analog subsystems are completely separate, so if you have an HDMI display and a DVD player that only provides component video, you can't play a DVD on the HDMI display. The solution is to run component video to the display as well, and switch its input to component video when watching a DVD, but it's an extra hassle to switch yet another device. Thankfully, I have a Logitech Harmony remote which I was able to program to switch the input on the display as needed.
The sound processing is excellent, and the fact that it chooses the correct audio decoder automatically is a real plus. Sony also did a great job simplifying the front panel and improving the ease of use.

Reviews & Ratings for 7.1-Channel Home Theater Receiver Very good sound and features for the price. Set up was easy once I understood the wire connection scheme for Sony. Speaker configuration and automatic level setting with included mic worked very well once I figured out the speaker configuration settings. Sound is very good on Bose speakers (5.1) especially hearing the dialogue. Operating the AVR is easy enough for my 9 yr old son but too complicated for my wife. I bought this AV receive to work with a SONY Bravia 40" LCD and Sony Blue Ray Disc player. I am very pleased with the HDMI pass-through on the receiver, the picture and sound are excellent. BD DVDs are outstanding although the disc for Mr Magoriums Majic Emporium in the next to last scenes had an annoying audio delay where the lip movement did not sync with the audio. This was not a system problem that I could tell but a problem with the disc. The only disappointment I have is with the three remotes I must use to operate the components. I expected the matched components would be able to function from just one remote. It may be possible but I have not figured out how I could only use just one remote. If this is not possible I will set up the Harmony remote I have.

Reviews & Ratings for 7.1-Channel Home Theater Receiver Hooked this up with Polk RM6880 speakers, and the sound is fantastic. We were not able to perfectly space speakers, so the feature of this receiver to properly offset sound was very nice (it comes with a small mic you place at listening point and it runs a series of tests to determine surround settings). Would recommend the receiver. PC Connection shipped quickly and no problems.

Reviews & Ratings for 7.1-Channel Home Theater Receiver This receiver has a great amount of power. Makes my Blu-Ray DVD's sound superb through my Bose speakers. The receiver itself has a steeper then normal learning curve. Once you learn it though you are in for a treat. Handles everything very well. The HDMI inputs and output are beautiful. I get a fantastic picture which all my picture flows through the reveiver and I have no loss of signal what so ever. The greatest thing about this receiver is what I paid for it. The price was easily $100 less then I could find anywhere else. Infact I was about to give up on getting it when I came accross it on PC Connection. I am thoughly enjoying this reciever and it makes everything connected to it sound great.
