Reviews & Ratings for Vixia HF11 Dual Flash Memory Camcorder Canon has upped the bar once again for this type of camcorder. HDV, the reigning codec for consumer-level quality, records at 25Mbps, while AVCHD was topping out at 18Mbps just last year. Less data equals less video quality, though AVCHD obviously compresses video in a different way, so it's not entirely fair to compare simple data rate. However, the new HF11 records AVCHD at 24Mbps, nearly equalling the 25Mbps of HDV camcorders, and you'd be extremely hard-pressed to tell footage from the HF11 apart from that shot on, say, the HV30 HDV camcorder.
It really is that good. Color, detail, shadows, motion - it's all really, really impressive. Add to that the 24p and 30p recording modes, the 12x zoom, the built-in 32GB(!) of flash storage, the quality image-stabilization, and the strong battery and you have one attractive camcorder.
Without a doubt the Flash-based camcorder to buy if you want the best there is right now.
