EOS Rebel XSi SLR Digital Camera w/ 18-55mm IS Lens - Black
The Canon EOS Rebel XSi Digital Camera features an improved autofocus sensor, enhanced 14-bit A/D conversion, an advanced Live View function and the proprietary DIGIC III image processor (which ensures that the fine details and natural colors of the images are optimally recorded and manages the camera's efficient energy consumption and high-speed signal processing performance). The 12.2 megapixel APS-C size CMOS sensor employs large microlenses over each pixel to reduce noise and enhance sensitivity up to ISO 1600, while the 14-bit Analog-to-Digital (A/D) conversion process means that the Rebel XSi records up to 16,384 colors per channel and allows the camera to produce images with finer and more accurate gradations of tones and colors. The camera also incorporates the Highlight Tone Priority and High-ISO Noise Reduction functions (previously found only on Canon's Professional Digital SLRs) and the camera is equipped with Canon's Auto Lighting Optimizer technology, which corrects image brightness and contrast automatically to prevent underexposure with backlit scenes. The camera utilizes a precise nine-point Autofocus (AF) system featuring a newly developed AF sensor that improves the camera's subject detection capabilities compared to earlier models. The cross-type AF measurement is effective with all EF and EF-S lenses, while providing enhanced precision with lenses having maximum apertures of f/2.8 or faster and increases the camera's ability to autofocus quickly and accurately. The EOS Rebel XSi is also fast, capable of continuously capturing 3.5 frames per second for bursts of up to 53 images in large/fine JPEG mode and 6 frames in RAW mode. The camera is also equipped with a host of useful creative controls, including shutter speeds ranging from 1/4000 sec. to 30 sec. plus Bulb, a choice of four metering patterns including 4% spot metering, a wide range of exposure modes from fully automatic to fully manual, depth of field preview, mirror lock and much more. The large, 3-inch, 230,000 pixel LCD monitor makes it easier for users to review images and scroll through the Rebel XSi camera's menus. It also features a broadened color gamut, seven brightness settings for easy viewing under a variety of shooting conditions and a wide viewing perspective in all directions. Furthermore the EOS Rebel XSi camera features Live View, which allows users to frame shots through the LCD screen rather than the viewfinder. The Rebel XSi DSLR utilizes Canon's EOS Integrated Cleaning system. This involoves a Self-Cleaning Sensor Unit that shakes dust particles off the low-pass filter in front of the sensor. The dust is then trapped by an adhesive along the base, preventing it from causing further nuisance. The EOS Rebel XSi camera utilizes SD and SDHC memory cards including those with capacities higher than 2GB, making it the perfect upgrade for users already equipped with SD cards from point-and-shoot model cameras.
The Canon 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 EF-S IS Lens is a standard zoom lens that features the smaller size image circle, exclusively designed for EOS Digital Rebel and other cameras using the "APS-C" size sensor. The focal length is equivalent to approx. 28-90mm in 35mm format. This makes it ideal as a basic everyday lens. * 1 Megabyte (MB) = 1,000,000 bytes; 1 Gigabyte (GB) = 1,000,000,000 bytes; MP = MegaPixels

Pros: good price
Reviews & Ratings for EOS Rebel XSi SLR Digital Camera w/ 18-55mm IS Lens - Black This camera offers everything you would want in an entry level DSLR and then some. Moreover the dimensions of the EOS body allow photographers that are into old glass to buy adapters for their old lenses. I have shot many old 1960s lenses on this camera with good results. The only thing this camera really lacks is a "full-frame" sensor.

Pros: image quality, size, live view, battery, autofocus
Reviews & Ratings for EOS Rebel XSi SLR Digital Camera w/ 18-55mm IS Lens - Black Wow, this is a nice upgrade to the XTi. The higher resolution is nice, but there are other things that are more important, such as the improved auto focus and image processor. Live View is absolutely a godsend for taking studio shots - it doesn't focus very quickly when focussing in that mode, so you can't hold it out at arm's length like a compact, but that's not what you really wanted it for, is it?
The included kit lens is pretty capable, but put some good glass in front of this body for some eye-popping images. USM image stabilization is nice.
Build quality is top-notch and the 3-inch LCD is bright and clear.
There are a huge number of manual settings, but there are also some good automatic settings that deliver in most situations.
All in all, a great camera. Picture quality from DSLRs is so much higher than what you get from a compact, you'll be amazed if this is your first DSLR.
I've taken way more than the expected number of shots in various setups and the battery has kept going. Nice!
