The drive installed but I had a problem getting the image backup working. It was due to a registry entry, left over from an unintall of another software package. I found and fixed the problem myself.

Price was right, delivery was prompt, installation was uneventful. I installed the supplied software even though I have my own backup system. I use it for both a backup of personal files and a mirror bu using Acronis. The Maxtor software brought to my attention that the drive was no longer being recognized on one occasion. The Firewire and power connections were secure and a reboot brought it back to life, and it never happened again. I know that my computer loves me but sometimes does things with no rational explanation. At 75 I've learned to accept that and move on.

Seems to be a quality product at an affordable price. Solid cables and software included and a great warranty. 5 Years! For 500GB's, Firewire 400 and USB 2.0, I consider this product to be a good value.

It was super simple to set up. All I had to do was plug it in, install the software, and set up the optional automatic backup. It definitely put my mind at ease knowing that my family's pictures and other important files have another safe location if something happens to my computer.

The drive itself works fine - fast and quiet. The software does not work at all. It did not install properly. I removed it and attempted a reinstall and the installer refused to proceed with the message "Feature transfer error" - how useful.
I am using ntbackup instead (which works fine).
For a company like Maxtor the software should be bullet proof - it isn't even close.

I bought the 500GB Maxtor OneTouch 4 Plus USB 2.0 FireWire Hard Drive about a week ago and it was so quick, fast and easy to transfer my huge files in couple of minutes.Works awesome also the warranty is for 5 years you can not get that warranty any where else. I recommend this but not the (SIMPLETECH DRIVES) because i had two of those and after 3 months it stopped working and i lost all my files.

This product offers all of the necessary options to be a viable solution for every market. It has both major connections covered (USB2.0 and Firewire). The software is decent. Great Value for the price point.

Good little HDD for running backups on. Even though it looks heavy and solid, it's not. Unlike the Maxtor External HDDs of yore, which had a heavy aluminum shell, this does not.

The back up did not back everything up, and when you go to restore it for some reason it doesn't give you the restore button in the Maxtor program like it shows in the book, therefore you are stuck with restoring all or nothing.

I have a satellite receiver that is a dvr but required a usb external hard drive. I purchased a different hard drive and it did not work with the dvr, but this one was just plug and play. I have had it a number of weeks and it works great.
