This 10-/100-Mbps Autosensing Media Converters is designed for Multimode, 850-nm ST fiber (LMC7001A-R2).

These BLACK BOX 10-/100-Mbps Autosensing Media Converters enable you to implement a 10-Mbps fiber network and migrate to 100 Mbps with a single unit. They’re ideal for future-proofing your fiber-to-desktop applications. When you upgrade a workstation to 100 Mbps, for example, all you have to do is change the network interface card. No other replacements are required.

These compact, 1U-high converters include a 100-/240-VAC internal power supply and are available in multimode and single-mode versions with ST or SC connectors. Choose multimode for shorter distances (up to 984.3 ft.) and short-wave transmissions over 850-nm in fiber accordance with the 100BaseSX standard. Single-mode versions support distances up to 12.4 mi. and transmit over 1300-nm fiber. They’re 100BaseFX compliant.

The 10-/100-Mbps Autosensing Media Converters include a Link-Fault Detection feature, which makes the laborious task of fault location easier. If a fault occurs, front-panel LEDs help you isolate cable breaks. The converters also have a push button by the twisted-pair port for selecting a crossover workstation connection or a pass-through repeater/hub/switch connection.

The media converters have three modes of operation: (1) PNP/Transparent, or autonegotiating, in which the converter configures automatically for 10 or 100 Mbps and half- or full-duplex. (2) Force-10, in which the unit acts as a regular 10BaseT/10BaseFL converter. (3) Force-100, in which the unit functions as a 100BaseTX/100BaseSX or 100BaseTX/100BaseFX converter (depending on the model).

The default operation mode is PNP/Transparent. Also, you must operate the media converter in this mode to take advantage of the Link-Fault Detection feature.
