Every major Pervasive PSQL release includes performance enhancements, and PSQL Summit v10 is no exception. Two of the key areas of improvement are faster I/O and better page and record compression algorithms.
PSQL Summit v10 accelerates the I/O of database files. Xtreme I/O takes advantage of Symmetric Multi-Processing (SMP) for applications with large data sets, reducing the time required for reads and writes.
By compressing data at the page level (instead of the file level), PSQL Summit v10 reduces application I/O. Pages are decompressed and placed in cache for reads, and compressed for writes.
PSQL Summit v10 reduces space and I/O requirements by compressing contiguous characters. This improves performance for applications using records with repeating characters.
