BIG-IP is the local area traffic management solution. BIG-IP intercepts, inspects, transforms, and directs all IP-based traffic to the correct resource or application within a data center, depending upon capacity, performance, or business criteria. The result is enhanced security, control, and intelligence in managing your web applications and services.

BIG-IP is the only ITM product that supports a FIPS-certified 140-1 level 3 crypto card. BIG-IP FIPS products integrate advanced key management functionality and dedicated transaction acceleration in a highly secure, tamper-resistant module - providing a best-practices approach for customers that require top-level security for their Web applications and services. SSL client certificates are used for Web services that require knowledge of the client. BIG-IP provides more granular control of SSL Client Certificates than any other traffic management product - ensuring the effective and secure deployment of web services. Augmenting BIG-IP's security, customers can apply their own security models utilizing RADIUS and LDAP authorization services already deployed - providing an additional line of defense to further enhance the overall network security infrastructure.

BIG-IP lets you assign priority levels to servers in a group. If the higher-priority servers fail, a lower priority group will automatically be added to handle the load. BIG-IP allows the automatic redirection of traffic to a different server or site should a single or all servers fail. BIG-IP provides fault tolerance by eliminating single points of failure. By distributing end user requests across a group of servers, caches, firewalls, and other devices, BIG-IP ensures that content and applications are always available.
