NetScreen's Deep Inspection firewall builds on the strengths of Stateful Inspection and integrates intrusion prevention technology into the firewall to provide application-level attack protection for the network perimeter. NetScreen continuously investigates application-level threats and determines the most appropriate line of defense for specific exploits, based on the criticality of the attack and the potential impact of the attack signature.

Deep Inspection attack objects are designed to efficiently protect networks from the most critical attacks in the Internet-facing protocols that are found at the network perimeter. Those attack signatures that are more variable in nature, meaning they could represent attacks in certain environments and benign traffic in others, are better suited for the more robust NetScreen-IDP solution, which is designed to provide more sophisticated attack protection capabilities to address the threats of a wide array of application-level vulnerabilities in a broad range of protocols.
