The Compaq DLT Tape Array III is a backup solution that houses up to four DLT or SDLT tape drives in a 5U rack mount enclosure. It replaces the DLT Tape Array II, while providing customers with a backup solution that accommodates both SE and LVD tape devices. This 5U rack-mount model is configured with four SDLT 110/220 tape drives for a native storage capacity of up to 440GB (880GB with 2:1 compression) and a maximum native transfer rate of 158.4GB/hr. (316.8GB/hr. compressed). It offers an average file acess time of 60 seconds, an average load time of 12 seconds and a mean time to access data of 82 seconds. For reliability, it features a drive head life of 30,000 hours and an MTBF rating of 250,000 hours at an 80 percent duty cycle. It uses SDLT cartridges. Software management tools allow easy management of servers and attached tape devices.
