A full-featured tool suite, RoamAbout Switch Manager (RASM) enables IT organizations to perform pre- and postdeployment planning, configuration, verification, management and optimization of the RoamAbout Wireless Switch System wireless LAN infrastructure.
To begin the process, users import AutoCAD DXF, AutoCAD DWG, JPEG or GIF floor plan files to design the wireless LAN offline. Wizard-based Virtual Site Survey and automated capacity planning tools simplify the planning stage. RASM includes a library of attenuators for building obstacles, including doors, walls, ceilings, and more.
RASM automatically determines how many RoamAbout Access Point radios need to be installed in any part of a building, taking into consideration the RF obstacles and, optionally, a capacity plan based on the number of users and their bandwidth demands. After planning is complete, RASM provides a work order that shows exactly where to install RoamAbout equipment.
RoamAbout Switch Manager greatly simplifies the running of the wireless LAN by providing RF topology mapping; continuous, scheduled, or on-demand rogue detection; user monitoring and location awareness; and network usage patterns. The RASM tool suite also provides automatic verification of each update, ensuring that network changes do not introduce errors.
In addition, RASM collects user and network statistics, displaying the data that RoamAbout switches collect on user sessions and detailing user- and systemlevel events and statistics for the wired network. RASM also detects, identifies, and locates rogue access points, their users and 802.11 ad hoc networks.
