    The Intel PRO/100 S Desktop Adapter features the new Intel Fast Ethernet controller with integrated encryption co-processor and Intel SingleDriver technology for compatibility across Intel PRO/100 Network Adapters. In addition to its primary function of providing 10/100 connectivity between the server and other network devices, the PRO/100 S adapter also offloads 168-bit 3DES encryption from the CPU to its security co-processor, freeing processing power for other network tasks. It's designed with the Intel 82550EY Fast Ethernet controller, whose smaller chipset design occupies one-quarter of the space and consumes one-quarter of the power of the earlier controller and co-processor.

    Advanced management features, such as WfM Baseline v2.0 Enabled for Servers, DMI 2.0 Support, WMI and SNMP-management, Offline Diagnostics, Intel Boot Agent, ACPI Power Management and Wake on LAN help control costs. Advanced software features include Adapter Fault Tolerance, Adaptive Load Balancing, Fast EtherChannel (when used with a capable switch), Gigabit EtherChannel (when used with a capable switch), Intel Link Aggregation (when used with a capable switch), PCI Hot Plug and Active PCI, TCP Checksum Offload and Adaptive Performance Tuning.
