The Compaq TA1000 Advanced Intelligent Tape (AIT) Technology Tape Array is a hot-pluggable backup solution that contains five 50GB tape drives in a self-contained enclosure that fits into a compact 3U rack-mount configuration. Each drive has a mean time before failure rating (MTBF) of 300,000 hours, delivers 50GB capacity (100GB compressed) at 6MB/s (12MB/s compressed) with an average data access time of 27 seconds to any point on the 230m tape. That gives the unit a total capacity of 250GB (500GB compressed). The typical transfer rate is 190GB per hour. It features an LVD (Ultra2 SCSI) interface, hot-pluggable tape drives, power supplies and fans, with redundant fans, power supply and dual bus I/O module. It is compatible with ProLiant enterprise and corporate servers.
