The 3Com WAN Application Acceleration Module (WAAM) delivers optimized WAN speeds up to 10Mbps and support for up to 32,000 concurrent TCP sessions. The 3Com WAAM for the MSR Series Multi-Service Router platform delivers advanced WAN optimization and application acceleration technologies to enhance WAN performance from headquarters to the branch office or between remote locations.

Deploying the 3Com WAAM helps organizations overcome IT challenges, including: inconsistent and unreliable WAN performance that can result in poor application performance and inability to access critical data, which can decrease employee productivity; ensuring LAN-like application performance over the WAN while consolidating the branch office and server infrastructure into centralized data centers as part of a broader operational efficiency initiative; controlling increases in bandwidth requirements and expenses as well as delays in application deployment due to inefficient use of existing bandwidth; improving data protection, backup and replication for remote offices as part of compliance or disaster recovery plans.

The 3Com WAAM helps enhance the performance of real-time, latency-sensitive applications such as voice over IP (VoIP). QoS and traffic-shaping technologies prioritize voice traffic and ensure it has the uncongested bandwidth it needs, when it needs it. However, while ensuring enough bandwidth is available to guarantee superior call quality, other applications must also perform well to keep the business running. The compression employed by the 3Com WAAM increases the available bandwidth for these applications, optimizing their performance in a voice-friendly WAN.

This unit is available as a FIC form-factor for the MSR 50 Series platform. Additionally, you can choose from two available bandwidth licenses to meet your specific needs (available separately): Standard Bandwidth License, 64Kbps to 2Mbps (3130A17H), and Extended Bandwidth License, 2Mbps to 10Mbps (3130A17J).
