Digi's EtherLite Terminal Server blends the control and performance of between (2) and (32) serial ports with the convenience of a 10/100 Ethernet connection (RJ-45). The EtherLite network serial concentrator connects asynchronous serial ports to your network, replacing the installation of serial adapters in servers for applications in POS/retail, process control, data collection and console management of clusters, routers, hubs, switches, PBXs and other networking devices with console ports.

EtherLite Terminal Servers are not typical Ethernet terminal servers. The traffic from all EtherLite ports is serviced by a single TCP/IP session, compared to the conventional "one session per port" method. The obvious EtherLite benefit is less overhead at the host, and less traffic across your LAN's Ethernet. EtherLite serial ports appear as local ttys under UNIX and as native COM ports under Windows NT. These locally administered, full, "hardware-style" ports allow much greater control than standard terminal server ports. EtherLite supports port speeds up to 115Kbps, ideal for handling all of today’s serial devices. Hardware and software flow control manages data flow at even higher baud rates.

EtherLite models' authentic serial ports come without the burden of Telnet, Rlogin, Reverse Telnet or other complex networking overhead. Operating system drivers (Windows NT or UNIX) are provided free with each unit on CD-ROM. Simply attach the unit to twisted-pair Ethernet cabling (Cat5), load device drivers on a UNIX or NT host, and set the IP address.
