Managed media conversion is becoming increasingly important, especially in mission critical applications such as connecting e-commerce servers to the Gigabit backbone, and in long-distance fiber optic runs used to extend enterprise LANs to remote offices often hundreds of kilometers away. Managed media conversion enables network managers to eliminate the guesswork, avoid expensive downtime, and quickly isolate problems without visiting multiple wiring closets. The iMediaCenter Series incorporates a Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) agent embedded directly on the chassis backplane. This innovation eliminates the need for purchasing, installing and configuring separate management modules, making managed media conversion easier, more reliable and cost-effective than ever. iMediaCenter is a flexible, multi-protocol platform that includes 2, 8 and 18-slot configurations to provide a solution for most requirements in today's dynamic networks. Chassis host hot-swappable, media connectivity and bandwidth management modules and enable network managers to monitor copper and fiber link status information, as well as chassis environmental statistics, including temperature and voltage level.
